Because it's targeted at urban schools.
So Thnkr, you better be the media in that audience!!
Yeah I know what you….
Don't think that this is his real outfit…
One problem, what if a science genius can't rap?
Who was that scientist he listed. Einstein, Niels Bohr and who??
he looks science…
How on earth does that sound stupid? Did you even pay attention to what he was saying?
Oh please, what has been tried and pursued for the long term?
Revolutionize hip hop. Revolutionize learning. What' is meant to happen! We're not suppose to make things worst were supposed to make it better! Bless the Science Gen.i.u.s. put them in all schools. This should be up there with the spelling bee!
this dude is the shit
science doesn't need such hip hop rapping crap lol
Combining science and rap is a stupid idea. Its like trying to trick people into learning. The problem with kids is that they don't want to learn. Thats what needs to be fixed. We don't need take the education practice and cheapen it with hip hop. Street culture and science culture don't mix
The most dense beard…
I think this idea ROCKs. People need to understand that the human brain is a difference engine. It functions off comparison, so metaphor is always the best way to engage information. A passed logic is useless without the imagination to add to it. Metaphor is a hip hop fundamental. Big ups to this dude. Why has no one thought of this before.
because that's not how science was meant to be?
You are right that science does not need it. However, IF the goal is to make the material more accessible to more people then it DOES have a place.
if can get just one kid interested in science then thats a positive
You couldn't be more wrong. You said it yourself "children don't want to learn anymore". How do we fix that? We find NEW ways to educate our youth, thats how. I think this is a brilliant idea and I don't even like hip hop honestly.
How is science "supposed to be"? Did you create some kind of this is how science works handbook that we simply haven't had access to yet?
i am not alone 😀
just take a look at Eisenstein or newton did he rap about it? nope did they swear fuck 10 times or swear mindless blabber lame rhymes every time they learned something about science no? obviously not hence it just doesn't suit such an atmosphere would be a waste of time
@Omar Valdivia From the Slums of Shaolin 🙂
Parents thought it was science, and in fact it's hiphopist politics. That's how brainwashing is done in American schools nowadays, and that's why I never trust the political judgement of those brainwashed kids. And I'm pro-American, by the way. Maybe you are the anti-American ones.
So you use Eisenstein as an example, a guy that was so smart he created the Atomic Bomb but couldn't tie his own shoes? How about Antoine Lavoisier? You know the guy that was killed for witchcraft when he actually created Chemistry as we know it. There is no right or wrong way to LEARN science. Children today have lost interest in education as a whole so we need to make it more interesting for them to learn and including things they familiarize themselves with is the best way I have heard.
Not to mention not ALL hip hop is swearing, rape, drugs and the like you are only stereotyping the industry to what the mass media portrays. Keeping in mind I dislike hip hop greatly, if thats what it takes to EDUCATE our youth sign me up.
Don't close your mind to the possibilities of imagination.
CHECK OUT PHYSICS MAJOR RAPPER "GREYDON SQUARE"
It's less of the "rap" per say, but it's 1. Engaging young students to actually engage themselves in a competitive and helpful environment and 2. Demonstrating a deeper understanding of the subject matter by not setting a minimum or a maximum standard, but the standard is each other. So I'd suggest not being so close-minded, and accepting that if hip hop is what can interest students, then that's what we should be doing.
Einstein didn't create the atomic bomb
Hip Hop is an impatient art form, a blustering ego stroking expression of self confident street culture. Science is microscopes and telescopes, careful observations, a pain staking rigid process of deciphering the law of the natural universe. Oil and vinegar if you ask me
I've seen MANY rappers in a rap battle use scientific terms in punchlines, metaphors, and similes in a creative way. I love it when people come up with unconventional ways to teach our youth. This is great. What would be better is if there was a rap version of the animated show School House Rock. Shows like that engage little children, while the rap battling will engage teens.
Hip Hop is a culture that includes Graffiti, Dj'ing, Rap/sample-producing, and Break dancing. Rap is an art form with many sub-genre's — like Rock and many other musical genres. There is an ego stroking self confident part of it but how is that a bad thing? Whenever I see a scientist, I see a self confident individual that strokes his ego every now and then like every other human-being. Try to understand hip-hop before forming an ignorant opinion.
False. Rap wasn't invented when Einstein and Newton were around which makes your point a logical fallacy. What does swearing have to do with the message the rapper is trying to get across to their audience? I'm sure you own many movies with swearing in them. Does that not make it a good movie? Rap battling is very creative and takes a lot of research, wit, time, and memorization skills. Don't criticize things you know very little about. It will save you from sounding irrational =)
WTF are you talking about? 0_o
Learning to rap is easy. Getting good at it is like getting good at piano. It's difficult at first but the more practice the better you'll become.
Hip-hop is one of the most influential cultures in America, therefore it would make sense to implement a piece of that culture (rap) into educating our youth. Rap battling includes: Wit, Memorization skills, confidence, swagger, usage of metaphors, usage of punchlines, usage of similes, and lots of research. It's very creative.
yeah no go search rap battles on youtube it's distinguishing and immature
yo mom jokes are not funny and yet you'll have some random uneducated dumb asses laughing their ass of on that crap and so on many lame jokes trying to insult the other side as in a side of burn , using that wise for science is just absurd and plain dumb and stupid , you might as well just read instead of wasting so much energy on to useless insults over rap rhymes
this was awesome
Genius is word that's so cheaply and widely use to describe common crap now days that thinking has de-evolved to rap I weep for the future.
Yes I misrepresented myself, apologies.
The technology and theories he created lead to the creation of it though. Said so himself "had I know my creation would bring about destruction I wouldn't have done so"
Hey Thinkr, I love the look of your videos. From a film maker's perspective, what do you film with? I love the shallow depth of field and mostly close in framing in this line of videos. Is it filmed with a DSLR mostly with a 50mm f/1.4 or something similar, with a low f. stop? Loving the videos, they look great and have great content.
Christopher Edmin lists a few rappers that use intellectual wording to when they make music and I believe Lupe Fiasco to be one of the best. And no, I did not miss the point of the video.
faith restored on humans
That's one side of it. Movies do it all the time. Just because you don't get the joke doesn't mean it's not funny to others. It's like playing the dozens. You can use it with science by fusing wit, humor, swagger, and research. I think you despise rap too much to truly see the benefits this could bring to those influenced by the hip-hop culture so I will digress. I just hope one day you can open your mind. In every trash can lies a treasure that was overlooked. In this case, it's rap.
You didn't watch the video. Great job commenting about something you don't have no knowledge of. If great scientist like Neil Degrasse Tyson can see the similarities of rap and science why can't you? Oh…I forgot…
lol overlooked? while your at it you might as well give them guns to shoot each other for science and give them cars to do some drive by shoot outs for science of physics lol, oh and don't forget to smoke some weed and drink alcohol for science LOL
the reason why the americas going down because people are suppressing the people below them. how about all of you haters go get a fucking life and see how the american education has been doing for the past few years. this is new a revolutionary, i say itll work and itll help the education system. honestly the education system is so industrialized and old. doing the the same thing over and over wont yeild better results. so i say to the haters of this thing go fuck yourself and get an education.
Americas going to shit because were doing the same thing over and over trying to expect a different result. how about you open you ignorant fucking mind and look at the old, industrialized education system and learn that maybe that this will raise america
Stop taking your money? Why don't you tell that to the bankers at Wall-Street who steal billions from you then blame it on wel-fare recipients to get idiots like angry about it.
It's takes one to know one
i watch scientific documentary's as well as genetic engineering / quantum computing / wetware computing / nano tech videos hi tech videos etc, obviously i should be dumb for doing so
ima let you finish but Cannabis is not a bad thing. it is our next cash crop, to fix our generation, to bring hope for our kids so that have a better life the we do,as young Americans. its the was were raised ( as a generation,as a whole.) Did you know that we can make bio fuel out of Cannabis, plus it reduses the co2 in the air, . in the wise words of Einstein "We still do not know one thousandth of one percent of what nature has revealed to us."
too long didn't read lol
They need to get Blackalicious to participate on this idea, check out his song "Chemical Calastenics" – He was way ahead of his time!!!!
Cool idea, but what about all the other scum of the earth?
Really? In hip hop? So hip hop is anti establishment, what about the keen observation aspect. What about inquisitiveness?
This is ridiculous.
Science is still considered to be a Creative feild. To be able to see past existing laws and forces take imagination, and that is exactly why metaphor is the answer. That's what the word APPLICATION mean.
too long didn't read
Emerging science into that? What song is about this? Yes they use science "in a way" just as everything. But what says, i want to learn?
all his hair from his head moved to his chin
you know what changed south korea after the korean war? they educated EVERYBODY no matter who they were they educated everybody in that country. why the fuck do you have this terrible mindset that rappers are these people that slap hoes and be gangsters. search up macklemore, hes a rapper fighting for gay rights. search up mic righteous, british rapper who came from the dumps and is a now a successful artist. stop listening to lil wayne shithead.
Comparing Einstein to Kendrik Lamar?? I wanna kill myself
I would say you're just as guilty of what you accuse others of by way of self-righteousness.
Newton, Picasso, Beethoven, Guevara. Only rebels are remembered.
He has the most immaculate beard I've ever seen.
How to get education khan academy, this channel, big think, minute physics, vsauce and Sxephil you will get smarter watching these channels
This can be implied to other areas for example i'm a film artist so I could make a movie with the plot based on Science.
Its insulting to the great science minds-past & present- to be compared to a bunch of thugs who dont even have the talent to write their own music- sampling = stealing someone elses creative art. rappers are a bunch of narcissist whose lyrics have no depth or substance and offer nothing of worth to mankind. Punk Rock on the other hand is relevant to a free thinking, progressive minded world.
Hi MorPHzie, that's not true. Urban areas are made up of people from a wide range of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. It's not a euphemism, we think you're oversimplifying.
of course i dont listen to rap, so i can learn to degrade women as bitches, so i can learn to pimp all over the world. All this music does is self aggrandize the rapper (not singer) while instilling foolish notions on its mis informed listeners, mr blank
Misleading video title. I thought I saw a black science genius. What I find is bollocks. Rap won't produce science genius'.
More like Bitch teenager on Youtube Comments, yeah you shouldn't ever talk, period.
The entire video is misleading! Like most youtube videos with ideological content, for that matter…
Please update how this study goes. I think the cross-over between left and right-brain capacities (ie. bringing art and science disciplines together) is not only interesting, but I think has the potential to unlock advances in both arenas. It'd be interesting to see this idea expanded into other arenas…
Youtube is such a negative place… Some of these comments are so uncalled for.
neither the video, nor the title is misleading. The title leads to curiosity, for its a question. if you're not willing to question the possibility, then im not sure why you'd be watching this, but to see a "black science genious"… Science starts with curiosity. if you're not curious, then there's no hope in starting. this video is saying that if we were to use a method(such as rapping), to burst past the mental barrier, then who knows where the next gen of scientists would originate from
The title has been modified…
As for the content of the video, their true intentions are to impose the ghetto culture and politics to all pupils – which are the most impressionable people in society, because of their age.
that age is already highly involved. his opening statement was what he says success was from his perspective; which was when kids see themselves as scientists. that to me means when they believe in what they are doing, that's the first step. when you come at people in a culture without any scientific knowledge and start speaking science language, its intimidating and so most give up. but when you show them its not only possible but fun, then the drive starts.
Your critique can't be taken seriously if your grammer is not even correct – this project has made impressive headway and I urge you to approach things with a more open mind. You can check out the program at the website RapGenius, which features a rap from one of the students on sexual reproduction and also a testimony from a participating teacher
I missed an 'a' out I think it's an easy mistake, sorry for not proof reading my post before I put it on youtube buddy. If you can't understand the effect of my post you clearly need to open your mind. In terms of this headway, has one of these rappers become a scientist of are they studying to become one, have they postulated new scientific theories. I think that you're blowing hot steam(by the way that's a metaphor) because unless this program has been running for at least ten years,
I would find it hard to find any results to talk about. What these kids need is to have a culture of reading and learning instilled in them if they want to make any academic headway.
I understand what he is saying, however….Science is performing research and changing the world through science and technology.
Famous scientists engage the world through Physics and did NOT "waste" their time with frivolous matters like Hiphop music, romance and sometimes at the expense of hygiene.
I love hiphop music, however. The message here is to change hiphop. Not to push kid into Academia.
I can't even tell you how inspired I am by this work. I can't wait to share it with the corps members in our program.
I wish I had classes like the ones Dr. Emdin has, This guy is a genius!
I'm not sure if you are ignorant, or just missing the point of this.
These guys aren't saying that they are scientists, they are trying to encourage these kids to become curious, encourage them to think beyond what the world is stuffing down their throats.
These guys are thinkers, and they love to communicate their thoughts through their own mediums. They are using it change the way kids accept new information, because it's obvious that not everyone can absorb knowledge in the same ways.
When will the final Genius battle take place?
Who is Kacooli never heard of him?
Ho sorry I totally forgot Einstein, Churchill, Tesla were rappers.
Rappers rapping about the n-word is considered genius? Rapping about bitches and hoes are considered scientific genius?
