    Maxwell battery tech is still in R&D phase. Two to five years from mass production. The uktracaps would be useful for storing regenerative energy from braking. This high power energy from ultracaps is useful during vehicle acceleration and will extend life of Lithium Ion batteries.

    It seems you are confusing 12v battery systems with high voltage 350+ volt systems. Tesla's are known to have massive problems with 12v lead acid or AGM batteries, they tend to fail quickly in tesla vehicles because of the rate of discharge / charge isn't high enough, 12v lead acid loves to be cycled frequently tesla vehicles dont do this that's why so many owners end up stranded and their stupid door handle design locks them out of the car Lol making the brand image suffer so tesla wants to fix that with removing the leadacid 12v for supercaps.

    I purchased some D size maxwell capacitors hooked them up in series to get around 14v dc(using 6 caps) . I use them in my 1990 miata when the battery dies. I also use them in my zero turn lawn mower instead of the Lead acid battery. Only good for 3-5 seconds of cranking power. They are good for half a million charge discharge cycles. I'll have them for a while.

    Yes. 1st idea would be, Red Light to Red Light, quick storage. Capacitors (cap's) have the ability to grab that power from slowing/braking and ready it for 'launch' from the next light. Is the Tech ready now, No. But, but it's so close that you will find vehicles like City Buses using them when they have short jumps from Stop to Stop around a city center or areas like this. Maxwell already has a Hybrid battery for larger vehicle, Buses mentioned above and Tractor-Trailers and such that have both a battery and cap's in a normal 'start' size battery case.

    Ive seen several applications where the Super caps are used in connection with batteries. For example regenerative breaking is probably better with capacitors than batteries. Capacitors are better at "quick charge" so having a bank of caps reduce the number of cycles on the batteries could be good.
    Though this migt be more effective in a "power wall" situation with wind or solar
