welcome to this presentation of mechanical and mechatronic engineering this is one of the disciplines where you can turn ideas into reality what's the following have in common the answer mechanical engineers we live in a world of machines and these machines are boat designed innovated and manufactured by mechanical engineers mechanical engineers are everywhere they are responsible for many of the devices that we take the form part of our everyday lives mechanical engineering is a very broad range of disciplines and this is a blend of scientific knowledge particularly the principles of physics chemistry and materials with whole engineering concepts of mechanics statics kinematics of fluid mechanics thermodynamics and dynamics to provide mechanical engineers who design analyse manufacture plan manage research supervisors investigate consults and maintains machines and systems that meet the needs of mankind as I mentioned before we live in a world of machines and if it weren't for mechanical engineers we would be living a very dull life indeed so we'll do mechanical engineers work almost every engineering sector requires mechanical engineers and these range from transportation and this is not just the vehicles themselves the vehicles could be road vehicles like cars and buses and trains to ships to aircraft even the bicycle that you do you write on to the manufacturing of these machines and devices food processing most food processing plants will employ mechanical engineers medical medical devices and instruments are all designed and manufactured by mechanical engineers in the construction industry the construction processes are developed by mechanical engineers automation most of our manufacturing plants these days are all automated this requires some knowledge of mechanical engineering and electronic engineering which I'll discuss further on power generation in our coal-fired plants these days the large part of the work is done by Mechanical Engineers the steam generation the turbines to get the engines and the generators moving are all the responsibilities of mechanical engineers so if you enjoy problem-solving designing building planning applying theory doing research being very innovative and enjoy challenges then mechanical engineering is for you how can we help well at USQ there are three main benefits to study mechanical engineering and that is our programs our flexibility and our staff at USQ we offer the following programs in mechanical engineering a two-year associate degree in engineering a three-year bachelor of engineering technology mechanical and a four-year bachelor of engineering mechanical our programs provide courses that have a strong foundation in mechanical engineering we have appropriate laboratory resources to conduct practical courses to develop skills and enhance the theory and we normally have fairly small class sizes and this is appropriate because there is a great interaction between the staff and the students our graduates industry ready in other words they are ready to apply their learned knowledge and to apply their skills often in multidisciplinary engineering teams our program provides core mechanical engineering knowledge problem place-based learning team skills industry relevant courses and our programs are also accredited by engineers Australia this may result in professional registration our programs also allow a complete articulation between programs in other words if you start with an associate degree which is a two-year program you can continue on to the best of engineering technology and further onto the Bachelor of engineering and at each of these levels you could be registered with engineers Australia as an engineering officer and engineering technologist or chartered professional engineer our flexibility all our programs are offered in the following modes full-time on-campus part-time external this is by a distance or a combination of the above so depending on your own situation you could find either one of those three appropriate for you for the part-time external study we allow you to choose the number of courses that is most appropriate to your commitments we all realize that some of you would have to work in also study you would have family commitments you'll have social quite often we have people from the Defence Force studying with us and these instances we allow you to study either two one two or three courses by external mode with the external mode we provide a comprehensive set of study material which is in printed form but also this is reinforced by a large online resource to help you study further probably our main benefit to you is our staff our staff are committed to help you in your journey through University we are open to meetings to discuss your problems and this is also a result of the small class sizes that we have for the external students there is a fairly detailed study death site which allows you interaction with the staff and with fellow external students we are here to provide the best learning environment to help you succeed I just wanna go on to explain a little bit about the mechatronic engineering program what is mechatronic engineering mechatronic engineering is a combination of mechanical and electronic engineering and what we do here in this program is that we draw from the mechanical program and from the electronic program and this combination results in a unique mix of a graduate that can apply the knowledge of mechanical engineering and the control theory of electronic engineering so where do mechatronics engineers work mechatronics engineer will be found in most industries where there's automation will require some sort of control either computer or embedded control and this could be in various sectors for example an automotive industry for automation a defense systems aerospace manufacturing to name but a few the programs that we offer in mega toric engineering at USQ is the best of engineering mechatronics which is a four-year degree this program is offered again in the three modes full-time on-campus part-time exto this is distance education or a combination of the above well all that I said for mechanical engineering for the staff also applies to the staff of mechatronic engineering so if you're
