I'm not a big sports fan, but it only makes sense that ANY athlete would study his/her opponent(s) as much as possible. This application of science and math in an athletic application is great. It may make the game less "natural" or "organic", but it could also lead to more exciting games for fans.
Mora useless data = more Information Overload
A lot of people don't really understand the implications of this type of analytical leverage. I think the interesting thing to me is that a metagame WILL emerge and push creativity. If both teams know the optimal play there will be a lot of jockeying for doing novel things that will confuse the data while at the same time being valuable. The really successful teams will be able to glean real insights from data and invent new plays while the losers will be stuck trying to 'paint by numbers'.
At what point would the use of this data become cheating, if it isn't already?
it's funny because we have the technology to 3d image every single game simply by placing enough cameras. He is talking about technology that has been in america for years and he is talking about how he has just picked this tech up
Way to take the fun out of sports.
there are much more interesting applications of big data than sports imo…
Very interesting. Crazy how big data and quantum computing will completely change everything. We're moving towards being able to really predict the future. Nice is some ways, scary when it comes to the NSA.
