David Mulligan – Mechatronics at IT Sligo

there's an overwhelming demand from industry at the moment for this particular course simply because industry itself has gone very much than the route of automation and this is the engineering discipline that deals at the heart of that so all of our year threes at the moment that are ready to graduate nearly all of them have jobs at the moment before they've even sat their final exams so there's robotics there's automation there's also a software element and then there is an entire kind of mathematical modeling element to it as well in mechatronics we're probably the largest mechatronics department if you like in the entire country as regards our number of students so that gives us very very strong linkages to industry so if you've always been tinkering around with the likes of robots or with different kind of chips and sensors then mechatronics really is the space where you find home
