community informatics is the name given to a dynamic field within social informatics in 1999 our claim defined social informatics as the interdisciplinary study of the design use and consequences of information technology as they interact with in their social institutional and cultural context while social informatics meant mostly focuses on business and government community informatics is about how loosely divided defined groups of people connect and collectively is earned their their existence in the world using technology in 2009 Kate Williams pointed out that it is critical to emphasize the community element because this is really about people and how their space can be transformed by introducing technology so community informatics isn't solely focused on research but also legitimate social change
