Career Pathway Mechatronics at VWCC

career pathways mechatronics students who enjoy computer-controlled electro-mechanics robotics and mechanical cad should check out mechatronics mechatronics is the study of looking at a systems operations rather than its individual parts at Virginia Western you can learn cutting-edge skills interpreting electro-mechanics computers digital control systems mechanical can control electronics and electronic systems skills that open career choices in automotive aerospace medical materials processing defense systems consumer products geography and manufacturing industries Jenya Western has a beautiful campus in the city of Roanoke our campus has many newly renovated buildings with the latest in the state-of-the-art equipment how faculty goes out of their way to make sure that each and every one of our students is successful congratulations on Virginia Western 70-acre campus in Roanoke is the advanced technology center welcoming students ready to learn employable and in-demand skills the mechatronics program at Virginia Western Community College is exciting it's the integration of a lot of fields in making it work it's very hands-on I found out it wasn't just going to be sitting in a classroom and just listen to the teacher lecture we actually get out of the classroom and go into the lab and do all kinds of hands-on activities you're gonna the technology that you learn and you're gonna apply it you're gonna build things whether it be a robot whether it be a can crusher whether it be a small system that will simulate a process that's what makes mechatronics exciting the synergistic combination of mechanical engineering electrical engineering and information technology it's an integrated field there are lots of jobs in the mechatronics field especially in the Roanoke Valley because we have a lot of employees that are retiring and we need to fill those empty spots with someone who can use the technology to be more efficient and make the companies more productive here at Tech time we utilize a lot of technology and the development of our processes and manufacture of our products and we're looking for associates that already have some of the skills that Virginia Western provides Tecton employs 36 employees here in Roanoke County at our headquarters we have 215 employees you're planning on growing there's lots of job opportunities the job opportunities range from working as a production person all the way through keeping the equipment running or designing fixtures to make the process more efficient upon completing the program you have three options to continue training in the mechatronics field and have the option to seek immediate employment continue your education in the associates and Applied Sciences technology Studies program at Virginia Western or transfer into technology programs offered by some four-year universities I plan on coming here for two years getting a job possibly in today's economy mechatronics is an excellent field to get into because you're going to be very versatile you'll have mechanical experience you'll have a and you'll have experience in information technology when I started engineering I thought I would like the civil better than anything else but when I got here and did the hands-on application I found out that I really liked electrical a lot better than civil in a high school you would learn theory based information but here you actually get to apply what you've learned in high school so it's a lot better Virginia Western is the community's College we strive to make a difference in each and every one of our students lives to want our students to be successful we want to be able to meet their dreams and aspirations that they have in life we also work hard with our business and industries because we want them to be successful so they have many jobs for our students once they complete the college if applied science interests you then check out mechatronics
