So we are building robots to be in a episode of Glee?
A human may be able to dance like a robot but a robot will never be able to dance like a human, why make robot dancers? imho!
because is not about dancing itself it's about the group's synchronization and all you need to do to get that, just imagine what robots can do for build something, and what you can get with nano machines reconstructing human bodies, they need to be synchronized to get a propose.
Because the camera-man is "utturly ARTISTIC".
Because the robots weren't in sync and the frequent changing of camera angle helps to hide that.
Without an explanation, this is pretty uninspiring. Are the robots interacting, are they programmed with the dance and take queues from each other to stay in sync? Without the explanation, this can be likened to an afternoon at Chuck-e-Cheese.
Imagine a dance battle Robots VS Humans!
Boo… Booo… Throwing Eggs and Tomatoes at stage…
The true emoting is done in the music, not so much in the choreography.
I can't believe I clicked on this
I knew rise of machines was real.
Where can I get one? Awesome!
cause some robots were malfunctioning it wouldnt look nice.
One of the most amazingly cool and surprisingly emotional things I've seen from TED, or on YouTube for that matter!
And so it begins…
I guess these are the workers of the future…..
that guy needs to make a bender robot that swears at people that would be entertaining
very art see! loving it!
Am I the only one who found this scary !?
from a programmers perspective this isn't all that hard to do, just time consuming, and i mean really time consuming, from a normal persons perspective this looks hard to do xD
No harlem shake, this needs to be remix, DO WHAT I TELL YOU BRAIN BOYZ
bet the little fuckers can't walk…
When I watch that, I'm so proud to have a NAO. ^_^
I can has one 8 feet tall with a compartment for a 6' 1" 250 man-beast? Prease?
You and the rest of youtube are under assumption that all of the robots dance at once. Clearly there are 2 or 3 different robot dance groups dancing all together on the entire performance stage. Also, they can only film 2 or 3 at once as the cameras they were using are low quality when zoomed out al the way, and the audience would be blocked by cameramen if they were filmed any closer near the stage. The robots are small, you would need expensive HD camera to get all the robots in focus there.
Look! Aibo's sensei has revealed himself!
We are going to make agile intelligent robots, we are going to use them for war inevitably, all those movies with robots killing off humanity don’t seem impossible any more.(well they never did seem impossible if you had half a brain to see where technology is going)
shake that robooty
lmao at all the geniuses talking smack about the robots. You dummies have no clue how hard it is to write a simple computer program, nevermind create a robot.
Oh wow! Brilliant yet brings to mind how advanced in technology humans have become. (I was kinda creeped out watching it)
Bueno me gusto
this stuff is freaky.its only the start.pull out their power packs and burn the chips.get will smith on it 🙂
This is both the most awesome thing I have ever seen and the scariest thing I have ever seen.
Looks like Butoh Bot Theatre.
Ah but can they do "the robot"?
Can't hurt to ask right? In that same spirit I'd ask you hold back on the F Bombs – I share videos from TEDTalks with my children. I'd prefer not to expose them to foul language at the same time. Thanks for your consideration.
you are correct, this is really fantastic. and i can tell u, i really didn't expect that this site would send me a check of $240 for doing some surveys. i got it from here. you can also try it: bit.lyXNBgaK

On the same vibe, nanomachines, whole brain emulation (with the Human Brain project in Europe and the US's similar research getting 3 billion dollars in funding), actual cybernetic limbs/body parts (see: /watch?v=bDvJEKfT5TI and /watch?v=76lIQtE8oDY ), and group-minds (hyper brain-to-brain communication)/hive-minds(brain-to-brain networking where each brain becomes a node in a larger network) (see: /watchv=ld_9CnH9m9I&feature=player_embedded ) don't seem impossible either.
2 of 2: Please read 1 of 2 before reading and/or replying to this.
So perhaps, in addition to what you describes occurs, we may also leave behind our whole brain emulation children to combat or join "agile intelligent robots," ourselves become a group-mind (like the Neo-synergists in Eclipse Phase) or become a hive mind (like the Borg in Star Trek), immortal body swappers (like "Transhumanity"in Eclipse Phase), and/or all/none/some of the above or something else entirely. ^^
fantasic the shape of things to come
IT'S THE DRONE ARMY!
ah they're like new QRIOs :3
There have been numerous writings of people who came before me that warned about the direction we marching to and they foresaw where our technology was going and tried to think up of scenarios that would scare us into being careful with our technology, however all i am seeing today is mindless progress driven by profit, businesses who are slaves to money who do exactly what makes the most profit without thinking anything through, it is dangerous so many scenarios can follow our progress.
We have created a society that is based on sharing information, to add artificial intelligence to our Internet to build massive clouds of information containing all humanity's knowledge and to develop computers that mimic the human brain, beings that have a near limitless potential to learn is a stupid mistake we are bound to make soon, and i speculate by the time we do it we will have anything from the military to farming completely computerized and robotized.
On the other hand, anyone can see something is brewing, i think humanity or rather a few illustrious thinkers that happen to hold much power over us have realized that we are heading into a disastrous direction and fast, overpopulation, global warming these 2 problems alone can lead to anything from massive wars to massive starvation, and the tipping point isn't far away, and the worst is our societies and cultures are degenerating similarly to how the roman empire's culture broke down over time.
Freedom is dangerous for chaotic animals such as us, we need to be told what to think otherwise we start thinking on our own but some of us don't want peace or prosperity tough i hate to say it this way some people just want to watch the world burn.
But what really worries me is that money seems to be leading development in our world and money cant predict the future to which that development may lead after all money is an inanimate object that leads our lives.
I concur and think such things are inevitable. Life is a morally grey double edged sword. True transhumanist ethics focuses upon both the dangers and benefits that occur–and then attempt at choosing what is "best" for all. It would be against our very nature to not adapt, to not change, and to not dream, but I utterly agree that we should be very meticulous in appraising the rewards vs the risks. I'm no fan of short term profit decision making.
Please see "2 of 2."
But time will tell…
I agree that any danger lies in the human factor. That being both how we treat such fellow sentient-sapient begins–I prefer the view from both Buddhism and Shinto to philosophies of the west–, the traditional politics and tact of our species, and of course; the whole brain emulations who as digital versions of human brains with simulated or android bodies should behave like us. Europe's "Human Brain Project" and the US's similar project may finally allow us to test that last point. ^^
At this point in our world there is a team that tries to create a copy of a human brain from a bunch of computers, and there are projects to integrate emotions with ai's, the direction is indeed to replicate human thought patterns so these ais will have the ability to hate and love and every emotion we havae.
2) I think that's what most people worry about; immoral people creating these things for their own ends, more than the AIs themselves overthrowing us. Just look at how the US uses drones…
There is always a dangerous hacker in the left corner ready to outrage the public some sick thoughts of A.I. programming in software.
hey look they're doing, "The Human"!
Pretty shitty camerawork.
Fair enough .
But believing that the worst thing your children have ever heard or seen in the age of the internet, is someone "dropping the F-bomb"…
I'd say that is Level-Asian-naivety right there .
Oh well ….
amazing. but creepy as fuk. they can kill us in our sleep mother fujckersz
Some people in this world have to much spare time on thier hands. Bruno Maisonnier obviously has just the right amount.
Wait, It's just starting.
I want one! — or two — or three — or four….
no talking required!
But will they blend?
Define 'white' countries. Australia – a multicultural nation now, that was built on the attempted genocide of its native inhabitants. New Zealand, same as above. USA, same as above. That's not all they are, but they certainly weren't white to begin with. That leaves you with Europe only. The source of colonialism. Europe is arguably where globalisaton began. Europe introduced its various cultures to the world and now the world is introducing its cultures to Europe. And it ain't a bad thing.
I didn't give a collective negative. Just pointed out that your argument is flawed. The point remains that multiculturalism is a part of the world at large. Globalisation brings in a mixing of cultures. Wanting to separate from those cultures makes no sense. No one loses anything by learning about and connecting with other people. Race shouldn't even matter. You're human. Accept it. It's ok. Also, this has absolutely no relevance to the video, so why was it even brought up?
They have wifi, can understand 8 languages, hear better than us and have 2 brains… we're screwed.
Are they doing a haka? Is this their preparation for a battle?
Finally, robots to save us from having to do all that tedious dancing ourselves.
They are teaching us kids in grade school not to be people like you.
Although a natural urge inside me tells me to be ironic at you, I won't.
Because you just see things your own way. Just because it's completely different than mine it doesn't mean I should judge you. But you have to consider that every human ethnicity is a different evolution of the same species. No country really has unique identity. Especially the U.S. which are actually really "young". North Americans are actually Europeans who took that land from the Natives (who as you know are not white).
Just don't ask them to walk in a straight line, robots are still shit at that.
I can't watch the video anyway and your answer is flawed, let's just keep it at that.
*youre a jackass
Man how can you like this
where can you learn to make these things yooooo
the video is about dancing robots and here we are fighting about the founding fathers! way to go internet folks. just STUF and enjoy 😐
Three minutes of pure AWESOMENESSSSS. Thanks TED.
holy shit!!! that's amazing! that he could find a centre of gravity to allow that one robot to pivot on one foot while raising the other is outrageous!
I n the past in my school i had one
XD the won on our left is late XD
Holy crap! Those robots are doing a haka! They just declared war on us! Soon these tiny robowarriors will attack and "Kill all the humans"
Can I get one
Transhumanists at TED envisioning their future robotic bodies, I guess…
Dance tiny robots!!! DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
next will be skynet and then the nuke wars and then the rise of the machines and then salvation bwahahahahahaha……….
2:27 ummmmmmmmmm humping robots wtf
This made me incredibly uncomfortable on the inside. Mentally I can't explain why, but this freaked me out. The only TED talk ever to make me uneasy.
Welcome to the future! ( well not yet 😛 )
they weren't even dancing on the same beat as the music.
Meny money dancing.
It would have been cooler if they walked off stage
I think one had a broken eye
This is so cute
