Barcelona Super-computing Center – Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS)

welcome to Barcelona home of a vm messy capital of Catalonia where the Mediterranean weather astronomer and culture welcomes visitors from around the world this background noise that you can hear now is Mediterranean but it's not the same it is marine Ostrom the main infrastructure of the Barcelona supercomputing center where we do both research and provide services on supercomputing let's go inside nowadays pretty all the scientific disciplines need a new super computing technologies to accelerate the generation of new knowledge any problem that can be translated into computer code can be treated with a supercomputer this research infrastructure is mostly devoted to science to get access to the system's applicants can request peer review supervision and only the most excellent and brilliant scientists get access to those if you have to choose among the projects reported by us last year I have to mention the move forward on personalized medicine and also the detection for the first time of the gravitational wave is predicted by Albert Einstein work performed by Sacha Cuccia from Balearic Islands in my research I'm interested in the gravitational wave signals which are created when two black holes collide the most violent events in the universe in my particular job is to solve instance equations and calculate with very large calculations what such collisions look like what exactly are the signals that are given off experimentalist the LIGO collaboration can compare my predictions with the data and find out which systems have created these signals and for these calculations we have to use very large machines my home machine is Mangano's from here which today I have seen for the first time I log into the machine almost every day and the importance of it for our work is very easy to explain without this machine here in Spain we could not do the kind of work we do we would have to change our direction of research and do something else or encryptions we cannot do large calculations we work in a university hospital in here in Barcelona our main interest is the study of a particular type of cancer cancer that originates in blood cells leukemias and lymphomas and thanks to the new technologies to sequence the DNA we are now able to analyze the genomic alterations of these cancers we compare the sequence of the DNA with other layers of information to integrate all these different layers of information the supercomputer here is helping us to obtain a very clear information more important we are discovering new targets for new therapies that for sure will improve the quality of life of our patients my research is focused on the computational fluid dynamics and specifically about the simulation of the wind speed around the wind farms thanks to the supercomputing we are able to go one step above in the simulation of the wind speed going to the next level of the computational fluid dynamic models

I'm jealous! Our datacentre looks cool, but dude, a freakin' chapel! Cartesius / Lisa here, Dutch national supercomputers. We work with you guys in PRACE projects. Are you inviting for a tour ?

Awesome video and amazing work y'all do. Applied to work here has a Science communication specialist (RRE). Put my heart and soul into the application, as I have always wanted to work in communicating science. I know I can contribute great work to your institution. Hopefully see my resume and can give me a chance to demonstrate my experience, education, and passion.
