BANNED Race Cars | Too overpowered, cheating and "unwanted innovation" | TOP 5 Part 1

known as the center the car sometimes the vacuum cleaner but it is formerly known as the chaparral ground effect vehicle [Applause] you you and more aerodynamic shape is the most apparent difference between the new FW 14 and its predecessors while beneath its multicolored skin Lux an improved version of the renault v10 engine and its most radical feature a brand new semi automatic gearbox [Applause] spoken alito over there a hose from old yard did work for one car for boarded at this Activa veering T mother the best of all crafts is a team Ron Williams it is a phone there I was neat nearby and you heat it into that hood there's Auto his the dog and lived after his two years at Ferrari and Nigel has more experience of semi-automatic transmissions than any other Formula One driver flaps in the car a cautious almost tentative the driver feeling out every nuance of his newsfeed my main impression as we ride with nigel mansell who sees helmet just on the left hand side that is Beckett's corner now into those four and a half G corners the right-left right-left at Pickett's itself round Chappell curve doing about a hundred and fifty miles an hour down the fastest part of the course well equal fast is he doing a hundred and ninety miles an hour here as he goes into Stowe corner wets it back into fifth gear round Stowe and 100 miles an hour swing left into the Vale a little dip here now there's a short climb into another left-hander second gear which leads into the third gear right hand at a club corner preferred to fourth the fifth or sixth or worse as quickly as you can save up to every curve the left hand and a universe of 180 miles an hour Indianapolis Indiana home to the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the fame Indy 500 often called the greatest spectacle in racing it is unrivaled in the world of US Motorsports for its long history tradition and innovation perhaps nowhere was this more evident than in the 1968 Indy 500 when an estimated 300,000 people pack our turbine jet engines one of the turbines that ran in the 1680 was Lotus car number 70 driven by racing legend Graham Hill who proved the cars incredible speed by being the first to break the one lap qualifying record in 1978 Marie's search for a competitive edge is taken to new extremes with his extraordinary phone car the fan car was born out of necessity rally because Lotus had invented ground fair : Chapman's Lotus team have worked on their aerodynamics to achieve so-called ground effects sucking the car to the track and thus allowing more grip and higher cornering speeds Lotus's success is a challenge to all the teams Murray urgently needs inspiration and he finds it in the rule book with a loophole in the wording the regulations state that a movable device primarily used to give an aerodynamic advantage is not allowed Murray therefore designs a large fan which he can argue is primarily to cool the engine but but the crucial side effect of sucking the car to the road and I did two summers and I had to do them several times with a pimple leave the downforce multiplied by the number of square inches older the car you know it was just an astronomical a stuck bloody great big fan on the back the car driven off the gearbox and sealed the entire to the ground to have this whole area under suction difficulty in three months we had to redesign a whole and come up with a fan that would survive nearly 8,000 grants that was a teenager die torn into pieces the Swedish Grand Prix at understood and Murray's secret weapon is unveiled for the first time it's live giorgia the team's it was novelty when they first saw it on me the first word went to the hundreds immediately say it was illegal the Phantom could get this much down you

There all cheaters that’s all, very creative cheaters. They read between the rules and did what it didn’t say. My hat goes off to most of them. But they all are the reason why the rule book is bigger today.

Great video. Too bad there was apparently no proof reading of the comments and the grammar is horrible.

you left a very important car off of your list the Porsche 917/30 5.4litre turbo flat 12, not out-rightly banned but banned through stealth by limiting the fuel capacity of cars to 120 gallons so it meant in the Le-mans 24 hour it had to stop twice more than any other car on the circuit so it virtually rendered it noncompetitive in maximum horse power trim [1560hp top speed 250mph+]. Like most of these banning it ripped away from innovation, e.g active suspension where would that be know for safety features i realize some cars today have similar but we would have had it many years ago like ABS and traction control all these things would've saved more lives than they have already.

It's one thing to have a car banned, but it's another thing that have an engine banned….

When FIA banned the V10 from F1 that pretty much was the demise of F1 going forward.

However, just imagine a new V10 powered F1 racecar with the latest F1 hybrid and DRS technology…..

You really should check your work before you post the video. Spelling errors and numerical errors everywhere. Super sloppy.

At 4:44 he puts 0.67bhp/kg – which by all means, would have made his a most sluggish snail-mobile for sure!!! But, fortunately for him, there exists in this world today, a type of unselfish person to whom will promptly fix this erroneous problem STAT by correctly reversing this figure to 0.67kg/bhp – which would immediately increase the speed of the previously slow, most sluggish snail-mobile to an outstandingly fast properly overly-powered F1 open wheeler!!!
