5G MEC: Mobile Edge Computing Concept



hello everyone and welcome to class of mobile age computing today in this class we will discuss about mobile age computing this mobile age computing is built on a concept of or it is built on a recent advancement in MCC where MCC stands for mobile cloud computing so in mobile cloud computing so it plant computing servers it produce or it saves the data in their servers so cloud computing serves it produced shared pool of always-on resources so this will provide us shared pool of resources so all these own computing resources are available for us now what are the computing resources for example processors software and storage so it provides us a shared pool of I will say always on resources for indoor sources for example it will provide us processor software and storage while network devices consume these external storage through radio access network and Internet so how do we access this cloud computing servers suppose this is a user equipment so user equipment is attached to the network like suppose we are having radio access network we are having core network so core network is connected to internet so internet we are having mobile cloud computing servers through which we can fetch the data or we can use the resources provided by mobile compute clouding through internet we can access these resources I need time because it is always on resources which are available for us so cloud computing resources in mobile cloud computing it may be centralized or distributed may be talk about these resources this could be centralized or distributed in nature so this is basically the concept of mobile cloud computing so in conventional centralized form of mobile cloud computing if you talk about the centralized form of mobile cloud computing so computing resources are provided to mobile users cloud computing resources are provided to mobile users through a large cut remote control area users from a large remote control centers because this is centralized that means these are liquid is at one location and we are having a remote control over these areas and cloud centers such as Amazon ec2 Amazon elastic cloud compute cloud ec2 or we can say Microsoft Azure so these are the centralized resources that means they are connected they are centralized in nature they are at one place and we require to access these ec2 or as you'd or any centralized cloud servers through a remote area so this is the conventional cloud computing form that means if we want to access the resources centralized form like we required to access Amazon ec2 or a zoo so we are providing satellites form of resources so these cloud centers that means these cloud centers they provide us virtually unlimited competition capacity they are providing us unlimited computation capacity so that we can augment the processors in mobile devices unlimited capacity here it is providing we can use and we can access the resources however the communication between the mobile users and remote cloud centers like these is often over a long distance because they are at a long distance they are placed at a long distance so the communication between this user equipment suppose we want to access easy to so communication between this user equipment and ec2 or any cloud center is often over a long distance and which adds latency to the system so this latency we do not require in our networks so we require alternate form of mobile cloud computing so therefore alternate forms of MCC has been proposed where computing resources may be accessed in a distributed manner for that we have distributed nature of the resources so in distributed form so computer resources are distributed in manner suppose from small local servers we can access these resources and so we are having some small local servers computing resources are provided to us in a distributed manner from small local servers such as computed augmented base stations so here we have computing augmented base we have computing augmented base stations we are having Wi-Fi access points having Wi-Fi access points or from nearby mobile devices which can access the computing capacity so like we have two scenarios either we can use MCC in a centralized or in a distributed manner so these lac means local servers or computing augmented base stations or Wi-Fi access points the two scenarios are MCC are sometimes like we can say may micro cloud centers we can say these as these are our micro cloud centers through which we can access the data we can say these micro cloud centers another name as cloudlets all we can say this as concept as fog computing that we are going to install small local servers computing augmented base stations or Wi-Fi access point way through which we can access the data so we can say cloudlets for computing concepts micro cloud centers so mobile edge computing is defined by ETSI now let's move into the detail of this mobile edge computing so first thing is this is defined mobile edge computing is defined by ETSI it Rapids to ll distributed MC system so defined by ETSI it is distributed distributed MCC system we are computing resources are installed in the radio access network so suppose this is radio access network now this radio access network is very close to the user equipment so cloud centers small cloud centers are installed they are in the radio access network close to the mobile devices and end of internet so these cloud center we call as mobile edge host these are mobile edge hosts mobile edge host now what our mobile edge host these are basically the computing equipment computing equipment this equipment which is installed near the radio access network or base station or with what add the base station or near the base station so these are the computing equipment which is installed in the radio access network within the base station or near the base station now this mobile edge computing this is who can manage this so this is managed by network operator so network operator has to manage these host is computing scenario so if you talk about generate computing resources within the mobile edge host are virtualized so resources are required to modulized that means the resources in the mobile edge host are virtualized and how we can access these personalized resources we can accessed why API so with the help of API we can access these resources so that they can accessible to both the users and operator applications suppose these are the hosts and these hosts are required to be accessed by the user equipment and also by the network operator because network operators are managing these hosts so we can access these resources through API so that's why these resources are virtualized because these resources are required to be managed by user equipment as well as the operator and both can access with the help of their API now suppose we are having Yui you now with this we are having mobile H host with base station or near the base station oh boy this is connected to mobile core and core is further connected to internet so these mobile edge hosts it provides local virtual machine it provides the local virtual machine to serve the computation needs of mobile devices so that we can serve the computational needs of mobile devices often with lower latency than that of the cloud centers so it will serve like it will provide us a lower latency because computation needs are managed by the local virtual machine that means the mobile edge hosts they also serve functions of traditional mobile code that means they can also perform the functions of the mobile code additional mobile code like traffic monitoring content caching these two functions are performed by the mobile call now a mobile edge hosts will perform traffic monitoring as well as the content caching and also it will perform some new functions like local information aggregation function of local information aggregation and also use a location services each can perform and these are all the functions which has to perform by mobile edge host mobile edge computing maybe we would has natural outcome of evolution of mobile base stations so as we are moving into new evolution new era of 5g so the evolution of base station so we can see mobile edge computing is a new evolution in the base stations from purely communication based now they are providing us our computation capacity of in the base station so this is mobile H computing scenario or this is mobile as computing basics that what mobile H computing is thank you so much
